History
The Center for Civic Engagement was founded in 2006 to expand, enhance, and promote faculty, staff, and student connections within the City of Atlanta. Since 2006, Eight Alternative Break trips have maintained a steady commitment to New Orleans, following Hurricane Katrina. Further, a partnership in San Juan La Laguna has facilitated three Alternative Break Trips to Guatemala focusing on the effects of colonialism and understanding modern ecotourism. The AB program is now being coordinated by a Student Ambassador, housed in the Atlanta Laboratory for Learning, which houses the Center for Civic Engagement, Center for Professional Development, Center for Global Education, and Center for Undergraduate Research.
