The definitive leadership experience for campuses focused on justice-driven community engagement programs.
For the past 30 years, Break Away has been hosting our summer conference series — the Alternative Break Citizenship Schools (ABCS). The ABCS are experiential training sessions that provide student + staff leaders with the knowledge, skills, and connections they need to start or strengthen a justice-driven community engagement program.
The ABCS combine workshops and planning sessions to help you develop an action plan for the 2022-2023 academic year and beyond. You can look forward to interactive workshops on social justice education and service-learning best practices, with processing time in a small group setting. The result is a dynamic conference combining learning in workshops with opportunities to foster connections with student + staff leaders from campuses nationwide.

Voter Justice, Then + Now
June 9 - 12
June 25 - 28
July 18 - 21 (including Staff Track)
Is voting a privilege or a right? Poll taxes, voter identification laws, redistricting, and even the Electoral College have sparked violence and debate for years in this country–allowing voting access to some while disenfranchising others, often within racial and gender lines. This summer, with important midterm and gubernatorial elections only months away, ABCS participants will work with voters’ rights organizations building capacity for and with Communities of Color though enhancing voting access and education. Participants will learn about more integrated voter access and engagement and determine more ways to challenge racism and other forms of oppression in our own communities.
Registration is now open for all three of our virtual ABCS. Spots are limited, so reserve yours today!
