The definitive leadership experience for campuses focused on student-driven alternative break programs.
For the past 30 years, Break Away has been hosting our summer conference series, the Alternative Break Citizenship schools (ABCs). The ABCs are experiential training sessions that provide college student and staff leaders the knowledge, skills, and connections they need to start or strengthen a quality community-engaged learning program.
Part conference, part model alternative break, the ABCs combine workshops and planning sessions with an immersive community experience. This includes education on a social justice topic and our host community, service alongside local community organizations, and reflection within a small team setting. The result is a dynamic learning opportunity that underscores learning in workshops and fostering connections with student and staff leaders from campuses nationwide.
This year, in light of the coronavirus, we modified our traditional four in-person conferences to a new, virtual format. While none of us know what 2021 has in store, feel free to explore information from past ABCs and reach out to our staff with any questions.
